Dive teams found a man's body in the water near Fells Point on Wednesday, Baltimore City police confirmed.
The discovery was made in the same area where Airman Evan Curbeam disappeared early Saturday.
The body has been sent to the medical examiner's office for identification and an autopsy. Investigators said they expect the identification process to take at least 24 hours.
Investigators made the discovery as they continued to search for Curbeam.
The Baltimore police marine unit was on its second day of searching the water in the Fells Point area when officers made the discovery a little after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said they found the body of an adult male at the foot of Broadway near the Water Taxi stop. Police have given no description, no race or identification.
Police have been investigating the disappearance of Curbeam since he was reported missing Saturday after a night out with friends Friday night.
Friends told police they last saw Curbeam walking to his car parked near the intersection of Broadway and Eastern avenues at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
Curbeam is a graduate of Poly High School and has spent two years serving in the Washington, D.C., Air National Guard out of Andrews Air Force Base.
