Mail carrier shot, killed; Employees angry

U.S. Postal Service offering up to $100K reward for information

CHEVERLY, Md. —The U.S. Postal Service is offering up to a $100,000 reward for information in the death of a Maryland mail carrier.

Prince George's County police said 26-year-old Tyson Barnette was delivering mail along Reed Street in Cheverly on Saturday night when he was shot and killed.
Barnette's co-workers, who asked not to be identified, said they are sad and angry. They said they've had issues with carriers being robbed in the area.
"The post office is not caring about us. That's what's going on in my mind, and it's not just us. It's UPS, it could be anybody. It could have been me," one employee said.
Employees said they've been asking the Postal Service to allow them to start their shifts earlier to cut down on night-time deliveries, but they said so far, no changes have been made.
