Police found Evan Curbeam's body on Wednesday
The Washington, D.C., National Guard confirmed on Thursday that a body pulled from the water near Fells Point on Wednesday is that of a missing airman.
"It is with heavy hearts that we learned today of the loss of one of our own. A1C Evan Curbeam, who went missing Nov. 23, was found dead. He was a friend, patriot and consummate professional. This is a tragic loss. I ask that you keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," said Per Brig. Gen. Marc Sasseville 113th Wing Commander.
The circumstances and cause of death have not been released. Dive teams found his body in the water near Fells Point on Wednesday, Baltimore City police confirmed.
The Baltimore police marine unit was on its second day of searching the water in the Fells Point area when officers made the discovery a little after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Curbeam was reported missing Saturday after a night out with friends Friday night.
Friends told police they last saw Curbeam walking to his car parked near the intersection of Broadway and Eastern avenues at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
Curbeam was a graduate of Poly High School and had spent two years serving in the Washington, D.C., Air National Guard out of Andrews Air Force Base.
Baltimore police said they expect a full report from the medical examiner by Friday.
