Report: BWI-Marshall near top among healthy airports

Airports rated for offerings of healthy food

LINTHICUM, Md. —Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport rates near the top when it comes to offerings of healthy food options, according to a report by the nonprofit Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.

The airport ranks fourth in offering at least one cholesterol-free, plant-based entree. On Twitter, the airport said it's pleased with the ranking and that BWI-Marshall is "committed to healthy food options for our travelers."
According to the report, 76 percent of restaurants in 18 of the nation's busiest airports offer at least one cholesterol-free, plant-based entree.
The report states that the number of airport restaurants offering healthful nutrient-packed foods, such as leafy green salads, red pepper veggie wraps and black bean burgers continues to increase since 2001, when the Physicians Committee's inaugural airport food review found just 57 percent of airport eateries offering at least one healthful option.
Down the road, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport gained a 14-point increase and ties with Los Angeles International as the third healthiest airport.
