1 dead, 2 hurt in crash on Route 40 in Aberdeen

Crews rescue at least 1 person trapped in crash
ABERDEEN, Md. —A stretch of U.S. Route 40 in Aberdeen was shut down for hours after a fatal crash.

Fire crews were called around 10:30 a.m. to the scene in the westbound lanes of Route 40 near the intersection of Walmart Way to find at least one person trapped.
Police said Virginia Walker, 69, of Aberdeen, was driving a GMC pickup truck across Route 40 from Walmart Way when she was struck by a Nissan truck travelling westbound on Route 40.
Crews extricated Walker from her vehicle and took her to Harford Memorial Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
The driver of the Nissan, Carrie McCall, 45, of Conowingo, and a passenger, Terra Posadas, 33, of Conowingo, were taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in stable condition.
Police continue to investigate a cause. Police said a preliminary investigation indicates weather was not a contributing factor.
