Police: Teen damages 34 cars, 5 mailboxes over weekend

16-year-old charged with causing more than $10K in damage
NEW MARKET, Md. —A Frederick County teen has been charged after police said he created a path of destruction over the weekend, damaging dozens of cars and several mailboxes and causing thousands of dollars in damage.

Police were called to Douglas Avenue in New Market in the early morning hours Sunday, where they found a trail of extensive damage.
Officials said 34 vehicles and five mailboxes were damaged or destroyed along that street and in other nearby neighborhoods. They said they've identified 37 victims, but there may be more.
Officials said several witnesses were able to give them a vehicle description and license plate number of the person who did it. Within hours, they were able to use that information to identify the suspect, who has only been identified so far as a 16-year-old from New Market.
The teen was charged with malicious destruction of property both above and under $1,000. Police said the damage totaled more than $10,000.
There may still be more victims in the case. Anyone who thinks they're a victim can contact investigators at 301-600-6077.
