5 Howard County liquor stores cited for selling to minors

Police send cadet into businesses to test cashiers


ELLICOTT CITY, Md. —Howard County police have cited five liquor stores for selling alcohol to minors.

Police have notified all five businesses that they must appear before the Alcoholic Beverage Hearing Board for violation hearings.
Police identified the businesses as St. John's Liquors in Ellicott City; Glenwood Wine and Spirits in Glenwood; Village Liquors in Clarksville; Vinoland Liquors, aka The Twisted Cork, in Elkridge; and Lark Brown, in Elkridge.
Citations can carry fines of up to $2,000 and temporary license suspensions. After repeated violations, businesses could have their licenses revoked.
Police conducted the test by sending a 19-year-old police cadet into liquor stores. Businesses where cashiers didn't ask for identification got cited.
Anyone who is aware of underage drinking or establishments that sell alcohol to minors is asked to call the police tip line at 410-313-STOP.
