A Bel Air town police officer was struck by a car while he was directing traffic at the scene of a fire.
Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS officials told 11 News the officer was hit around 4 p.m. near the intersection of Broadway and Nichols Street, where emergency crews were called to a fire.
The officer, a six-year veteran of the Bel Air Police Department, was flown to Shock Trauma with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The officer's name is not being released.
Fire officials said the officer was directing traffic at the scene of an apartment fire.
The apartment fire was minor and was caused by unattended cooking.
Police said the driver of the car that struck the officer was issued several traffic citations.
