Baltimore Co. increases penalties for animal abuse, attacks

First offense fines go up to $145; Owners will pay $1K after attacks
TOWSON, Md. —Abusing animals in Baltimore County comes with stiffer penalties nowadays.

Fines for first offenses are increasing from $100 to $145 thanks to a vote Monday night by the County Council.
If someone's pet has attacked someone else or is deemed a threat, the owner will now have to pay $1,000, which is twice the previous amount of the fine.
Those who have animals that are seized will have to pay pre-paid boarding costs. Failing to show up for animal board hearings will cost a pet owner their right to appeal a board's decision.
