Police believe mother involved in prostitution at Linthicum hotel

Police: Child left with hotel desk clerk; mother charged

LINTHICUM, Md. —Anne Arundel County police said a mother has been arrested and faces charges of child abuse and neglect and prostitution after a friend left her child with hotel desk clerk.

Officers were called to the Microtel Hotel in the 1100 block of Winterson Road in Linthicum for a report of a 2-month old baby left with the desk clerk around 12:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Investigators said a woman, who was renting a room and staying with the child's mother left the child with the desk clerk and then left the hotel with a man.
Officers were able to positively identify the renter and the mother.
Police said inside the rented room, officers saw items indicating possible prostitution activity.
Child Protective Services was contacted and took custody of the child. While officers were on scene, the mother of the child came to the lobby and was detained, police said.
The mother told police she was in another room visiting a friend and she left her baby with a female friend who rented the room.
Police said the mother, identified as 32-year-old Leah Lillian Ellison, was arrested and charged with child neglect. Authorities said Ellison was working as a prostitute out of the room.
Charges are also pending against the friend of the child’s mother. Her identity was not yet released.
