Maryland State Police investigate fatal Route 140 crash

Police: Driver of passenger vehicle killed; Route 140 closed
Maryland State Police said one person was killed in snow-related two-vehicle collision near the Pennsylvania-Maryland state line.

A tractor-trailer was traveling east on Route 140 out of Pennsylvania and a Kia Spectra traveling west out of Maryland collided on the snowy roadway around 11 a.m. Tuesday, police said.
Police said the passenger vehicle, driven by 66-year-old Samuel Lewis, started to fishtail on the snowy roadway, causing Lewis to lose control of his car. His Kia struck the front of the rear axles of the tractor-trailer, operated by Donald Kelly, causing the passenger vehicle to spin and eject Lewis, police said.
Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene, while Kelly was not injured in the crash, police said.
Route 140 was closed for hours.
The police investigation is ongoing.
