Fire destroys Shady Side home, damages one in Brooklyn Park

Fire crews called to 2 house fires early Tuesday
BROOKLYN PARK, Md. —Anne Arundel County fire investigators are looking into two separate house fires on opposite ends of the county.
Firefighters were called just after midnight Tuesday to the 1700 block of Columbia Beach Road in Shady Side, where crews found a three-story home engulfed in flames. Nearby homes were also in danger of catching fire.
Fire officials said there was no hydrant system in the area, so they had to call in about 50 more firefighters, as well as crews from Annapolis and Calvert County, to help get it under control.
The fire was put out in about two hours, but not before it caused about $350,000 in damage, officials said.
No one was in the house at the time of the fire.  No injuries were reported.
A few hours later, firefighters were called around 4 a.m. Tuesday to the 200 block of Fourth Avenue in Brooklyn Park. Investigators said the blaze started in the basement of a single-family home and spread to the kitchen.
Fire crews from the county and Baltimore City were able to bring the fire under control in less than 30 minutes.
No one was injured.  Officials said that fire caused about $10,000 in damage.
Crews are still investigating the cause of each fire.
