Police: Man lost control of car after hitting SUV
BALTIMORE —A 91-year-old woman was killed and a 90-year-old man was injured after a crash on the Beltway on Saturday night.
State police said troopers were called shortly after 6:30 p.m. Saturday to the Inner Loop at Park Heights Avenue, where a car struck a sport utility vehicle and lost control, hitting a concrete barrier on the right shoulder twice before crossing all lanes, striking the left-side barrier and coming to a stop.
A passing motorist stopped to remove both the driver, Virgil Ruben Carlson, 90, of Parkville, and the passenger, Jean Harvey Hepner, 91, of Parkville, before the car caught fire.
Carlson and Hepner were taken to Shock Trauma, where Hepner was pronounced dead. Carlson's condition was not reported.
The SUV's driver was not injured, police said.
Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact the Maryland State Police at 410-780-2700.
