Woman killed in Eastern Shore crash with rig carrying logs

Debra Ann Grafton, 66, killed in Linkwood crash
LINKWOOD, Md. —A 66-year-old woman was killed Monday afternoon in a crash with a tractor-trailer that was carrying logs in Dorchester County.

Maryland State Police troopers were called to eastbound Route 50 at Linkwood Road in the town of Linkwood shortly before 4 p.m. Monday.
Investigators said a Freightliner truck carrying logs was turning left off Route 50 onto Linkwood Road when the rear end of its cargo moved into the right lane of the two-lane road. At the same time, troopers said a Dodge Minivan driven by Debra Ann Grafton, 66, of Rhodesdale, was in that lane and collided with a log on the rig.
Grafton's van then hit a sign support pole in the median, where it stopped, police said. Grafton was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators identified the driver of the tractor-trailer as Jessie Pitts, 50, of Seaford, Del. There's no word yet if he was injured or if he will face any charges in the case.
