Light snow storms pass through Mid-Atlantic over weekend

Storms not forecast to bring significant amounts of snow
BALTIMORE —Light snow fell in Maryland over the weekend and yet another storm is in the forecast later in the week.

11 Insta-Weather PLUS Chief Meteorologist Tom Tasselmyer said the jet stream was split with a northern and a southern branch. The storm riding the southern branch brought light snow showers to some parts of Maryland Saturday afternoon.
The storm on the northern branch came Sunday afternoon with light snow or snow showers in some areas. By 6 p.m., the storm had started to break up and taper off to snow flurries. 11 Insta-Weather PLUS meteorlogist Tony Pann said the storm was moving fast and should wind down by the early evening.
Monday should be quiet with a slight chance of leftover snow flurries, Pann said.
Another big storm is in the forecast for the middle and end of the week with a Wednesday night into Thursday timeframe. But there's a battle of sorts between two computer models. The European model has the storm in a perfect location to bring a big snow event in Baltimore while the American model splits the energy into two pieces, taking one through the Carolinas and one through the Great Lakes that would wind up with little or no snow in Baltimore.
It's expected to be quiet but cold Monday and Tuesday.
