BALTIMORE —Police are investigating two sexual assaults at homes in the same block in northeast Baltimore.

City police said they are investigating two sexual assaults of women inside their homes in the 3400 block of Mary Avenue within the past 15 months.
Although they occurred more than a year apart, police said the suspect description and the circumstances are similar. The first incident was in January 2013 and the second was Thursday. In both cases, police said the man forced his way into the home in the early morning.
"Two women in their early 20s were sexually assaulted inside of their homes. The description of the suspects is the same," said police spokeswoman Sarah Connolly.
Officers went door to door Friday night telling people about the crimes and handing out a flier that has a vague description of the suspect, who the victims said had some identifying clothing on. Police described the assailant as a heavyset black man with a dark complexion. He was wearing a green construction-like vest, gloves and a knit hat in the assaults.
Police also said the man was possibly armed with a knife.
Police said they have increased their presence in the area, and they encourage everyone to be aware of their surroundings and ensure doors and windows are locked.
"We do have an increased police presence up there, but we are also asking for people to be extra cautious, make sure that their homes are well lit and also their doors and windows are well secured," Connolly said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the police Sex Offense Unit at 410-396-2076410-396-2076.
