Young Baltimore mother stabbed multiple times hospitalized

Police arrest father of woman's child, Gregory Hilton-Washington

BALTIMORE —Baltimore City police are investigating an attack in which they said a young mother was repeatedly stabbed by her child's father.

The woman, who hasn't been identified, is in critical but stable condition at an area hospital. For just over six months, she tried to get a protective order served against the child's father, according to court documents.
Neighbors called police around 1:30 p.m. Saturday after seeing a woman on the ground bleeding in the parking lot of the Amberwood Gardens Apartments. Officers and paramedics arrived in the 6000 block of Amberwood Road and found themselves in a race to save her life.
"When they got there, they found an adult female stabbed numerous times in the body," Baltimore City police Sgt. Jarron Jackson said.
Police said what led to the stabbing Saturday afternoon remains under investigation. Police arrested Gregory Hilton-Washington, 22, of Baltimore, on attempted murder, burglary, assault, reckless endangerment and weapons charges. He is the father of the victim's son.
According to a court charging document, the victim was stabbed at least 20 times. She told investigators Hilton-Washington assaulted her because she no longer wanted to be in a relationship with him.
At an apartment, it appeared the door was kicked in, and officers found what appeared to be blood on the floor and on walls and railings of a hallway, police said.
"This was a very brutal attack of domestic violence, and while we're happy to have made an arrest, our detectives are diligently investigating," Jackson said.
As police began their investigation, an officer noticed a car leaving the scene that refused to stop. The car was soon located in the 3800 block of Woodlea Avenue, where Hilton-Washington was arrested. Investigators said he had what appeared to be blood on his face, hands and clothing. A 2-year-old boy was in the passenger seat.
"When they stopped the vehicle, there was a child in the vehicle. As a precaution, we had the child evaluated through medical services, and the child is safe and uninjured with a family member," Jackson said.
WBAL-TV 11 News obtained other court records showing the victim sought a temporary protective order against Hilton-Washington in September. She claimed "the respondent grabbed me by my hand, backed me into a corner, hit me with his left hand on the right side of my head, poured water on me and spit on me."
She also claimed "he has swords and knives in the home. I am afraid for the safety of myself."
That temporary protective order was extended for just over six months from Sept. 7, 2013, through March 15, then was dismissed because Hilton-Washington was not served within the statutory six-month time limit. Police said they could not find him.
